Default PVP Fire Ele - Effective?

I've been thinking alot recently about whether or not a Fire-skilled Ele can be effective in Pvp? I've played the premade Pyromancer template, but it's lacking so much compared to an Air-skilled Ele in terms of damage output (which on an ele seems to be directly linked to effectiveness).

My reasoning behind wanting a Fire Ele in Pvp, is that I'm currently playing through an Ele in PvE - purely to unlock skills (Secondary is Ranger) for Pvp - While playing through I got thinking, what if I could adapt a Fire build to work in Pvp, allowing me to keep that character for some random Pve should friends need it, etc.

If that makes sense to anyone .... I have a tendency to just write down my train of thought - so thanks in advance to anyone who has suggestions

I'd like to know too, for pretty much the same reasons. I play pyro survivor (fire, energy, wilderness) in PvE and really enjoy it and want to know if it's effective to take into PvP. I forsee a problem with the long cast times of the good AoE spells.

Fire is good in some Pvp maps, but not in others.

In any PvP map where there is a priest or a captureable area, AoE spells will win you the game. However, Fire alone can easily be countered by spells like ward vs harm. I'd say if your gonna use fire, use Winter to go along with it.

Fire also, is too broad to be used at anything besides AoE, so if you want spike, use air, close damage, earth, slow downs and interupts, water.

You say to use Winter with Fire ... what would be the gain for this apart from against Rangers in Drakescale/Elementalists in Pyro armour? I thought Winter only changed the elemental type damage, not the actual amount of damage.

Ward Against Harm has a very high defense against fire and a moderate against anything else. if the enemy has ward against harm your metor shower will hardly touch them, if you use winter together with meteor shower, you'll do more damage.

Yes. But what the other poster was saying is that when the other guys use Ward vs Harm (+60 or so armor vs fire, +24 or so vs everything else), using winter converts it to cold damage, which would bypass the ward vs harm's main effectiveness.

And Fire can do more than just AoEs. Fireball, Immolate, Mark of Rodgort, Meteor, Mind Burn, Rodgort's Invocation, and to a degree, Incindiary Bonds, are as effective vs single targets as they are multiple ones.

The spells you really shouldn't bring to PVP are firestorm, inferno, lava font, phoenix, and searing heat. Flame burst is debatable due to its short recharge time, but generally you want to stay out of melee range if at all possible. Leave the in-close nuking to the earth eles.

Immolate spam can be very effective. More so than air spikes at times. Meteor Shower is a great aoe interrupt/damage dealer, and stuff like meteor can also be used as good spikes/snares etc.

That provided the oponent doesnt just step out as you cast it. But you are right in a way, it is quite efficient if it catches them off guard. You can knock them down at least twice before they realise they have to move, and that's about enough time if the rest of your team is attacking this same target.

I have used fire, air, and earth eles and have not had much of a problem winning in competition arenas with any of them. My fire build used

meteor
mind burn
fireball
immolate
shatter enchantment
(random skill i use for the moment)
fire attunement
res signet

the meteor + burn + fireball string of spells does quite a lot, and the caster I target is usually dead if my team knows how to target. (approx 300 + 7 seconds of burning + knockdown)

In HoH, meteor shower can actually be useful to bring. It completely destroys the ghosts at the beginning. Usually when someone in my group has shower, we get 8-10% bonus. Besides that, shower can be used for maps where a strategic area needs to be held or captured. Considering how many groups run 3-4 prot / heal monks, AoE spells are nice for wiping out obnoxious defenders.

You know hoh has a static altar? woo, if they run away thats a point to you either way.....

an old build i used to use:

e/me
fire:11+3+1
energy storage:10+3
Inspiration:10

Energy Drain [e]
Mantra of Resolve
Meteor Shower
Arcane Echo
Fireball
Energy Tap
Ether Feast
Conjure Flame

Arcane Echo meteor shower.... no need to add echo on top of that, either they move or they die generally.

When meter showers 60 second cooldown is still in progress, then arcane echo fireball lets you rip of 4 in 10 seconds. Nice spike and a little bit of aoe.

Ether feast, energy drain and energy tap provide a secondary energy denial aspect, as well as allowing you to keep going with the high energy skills.

Mantra of Resolve stops you being interrupted. A'Echoed shower takes 13 seconds to cast it, and thats just asking for it tbh

Some people like to spam flare, but its dam unefficient on your energy. Just grab a decent wand and put conjure flame on, the dps is slightly lower but the dpe is shockingly good.
